How to order a car with specificity.

70’s electronic music star Gary Numan (who is making a major comeback) says, “It’s the only way to live, in cars…”

We all would like a shiny new car. Cars are one of those things that we imagine having a “better version” of, something that looks better one you have, if you have one. Something that’s more reliable, perhaps. Bigger or smaller, more powerful or more fuel efficient. The wonderful thing about cars, in particular, is that you have choices as far as you can imagine. Different makes, models, body styles, configurations, colors, options… the list goes on. This is the beauty of the free market, the ability to pick and choose anything, so long as it has four wheels and a seat. Henry Ford once said “you can have any color you want, so long as it’s black.” That was way back in the earlier days of auto manufacturing, when options were limited. Look at how far we’ve come in only a century! The selection today is astronomical.

When we normally shop for a car, we take into consideration our limits of choices, typically based on affordability. But this is the Universe, where you can request anything, and your options are no longer limited. You can choose anything you want. If you want a Ferrari, you can ask for it. If you want practicality, there’s any number of vans and trucks to suit. Efficiency? Power? Style? The market provides. As such, the Universe provides.

Instead of imposing limits on yourself based on criteria such as price, insurance, mileage, reliability, etc., you can now choose limit-free. The nice thing about picking a car is that all manufacturers have websites that allow you to “build your own car” starting with model, then advancing to colors, trim, features and options. If you want an SUV that can seat seven, comes with satellite radio and has all the various safety features currently available, it’s available. Cars are now available with systems that alert you if you’re veering out of a lane, let you know if you’re showing signs of fatigue and need a break, and automatically apply brakes if it senses you’re getting too close to a car in front. Yes, there is a push to have cars out there that drive themselves, but seriously, where’s the fun in that?

The key to picking a car with all the options available is to disregard the price. Obviously the price will increase as you add features, but you’re not worrying about price right now, because money is no object when you are ordering from the Universe.

So here’s your next exercise: visit a car manufacturer’s website and “window shop.” There is generally no obligation when you build your own; if a website asks for an email address, you don’t have to provide it, unless you want sales people to constantly call you. The beauty of a website is not having a sales rep follow you about the lot. There’s no pressure.

However, it’s also beneficial to actually go to the lot, test drive that beauty, and solidify in your mind that “this is mine!”… feel it, breath it, smell it, smother your buns with those luxurious new seats.

When you’ve picked out the vehicle you want, order it from the Universe.
